Beach Dubbin VW Show. (Part 1)

For this year only: In previous years I would attend a show / rally and then post a review about the show the following weekend. However this year I have been too busy, so for this year only, I will post reviews of all the shows / rallies I attended over the summer months throughout the winter.

On Sunday 3rd August I attended the 'Beach Dubbin' VW show which is held on Southsea Common in Portsmouth. This annual event has to be one of my favourite shows of the season due to it's location. Southsea Common is on the south coast and a stones throw from the sea. The size of the show, which I think is billed as 'The biggest one day VW show in Europe' and judging by the sheer number of vehicles that attend, I can well believe it!. The variety of vehicles is immense with every type of VW imaginable, from early split screens to the latest T6's and everything in between. I'm a member of the 'Wolfsburg Bus Crew' (Wolfsburg Bus Crew | Facebook) and they had a club stand at the show, so I decided to join them in their line up. Some local members of the WBC drove down on the Saturday and camped over close to the show, but I decided to drive down on the Sunday morning with my mate Gary and meet the rest of the WBC about 1 mile from the show so we could all cruise to the show together. The only downside of this idea was the rest of the WBC were meeting up at 09.00, and to in order to meet them in time Gary and I had to leave our home town of Aylesbury at 06.00 to drive the 100+ miles to Southsea sea front.

Gary and I managed to get to the meeting
point in time. Gary's blue and white bay
and my bus.

Once all the WBC members had arrived
we all cruised the short distance to the
show.

Because there was literally hundreds of
VW's all trying to enter the show at the
same time the organisers made us do a
loop of an old car park to keep the main
road clear.

How did Gary get so far in front of me??

After what seemed like ages, we finally
entered the show and set about creating
our club line up.

My bus in the Wolfsburg Bus Crew's line
up.

My bus.

Once parked up it was time to have a
walk about.

Although this show is predominantly a
VW show, there was plenty of American
cars, bikes and scooters on show. This
1957 Pontiac Chieftain looked cool.

Mk1 Ford Escort camper, how cool is this?

Plenty of scooters on display.

My mate Gary, AKA, The Gazman, was
in the groove playing some cool tunes
to keep everyone entertained through-
out the day.

From RAT look to concourse it doesn't
matter, they are all here.

So that was the first of three instalments all about the BeachDubbin show. Next week will be part two where you'll be able to see plenty more cool air-cooled VW's, so be sure to come back next week.
