Brill village fun day 2024 (part 1 of 2)

Over the weekend of 28 / 29th August the village of Brill hold a fun weekend with steam rides, numerous attractions, assorted stalls and refreshments, kids area, a beer tent with over 40 real ales & ciders, street food, all day music and a classic car show. Brill village is nestled high up in the Buckinghamshire countryside, and probably most famous for it's windmill. I've been attending the Brill classic car show for many years now and it's getting bigger and better every year. There is a vast array of classic vehicles but without all the snobbery you sometimes get from classic car owners. So on the Sunday morning, Suzie and I jumped in the bus and headed off. Brill is only about 13 miles from my hometown so this really is a local show.

My bus parked up at the show.

Opposite my bus was this stunning 1200L
Beetle. This '77 model is totally original,
including original seats, rubber floor mats,
and even has the original main dealer
number plates.

I had a long chat to the owner, who is
quite local, and he was saying he
intends to keep it as original as possible.

Row upon row of cool classic cars.

Such a diverse assortment of classic
cars.

Gorgeous E-Type Jaguar.

With such a variety of makes and models
there was something there for everyone.

Very straight and very clean.

Citroen DS.

It was nice to see so many VW's at the
show.

Stunning Ford Consul Capri.

So that was this first part of the Brill Classic Car Show, the second instalment will be next week where you can see many more classic cars and bikes.

Aylesbury VW Owners Club meet.

On Sunday 18th September I attended the Aylesbury VW Owners Club (AVWOC) breakfast meet held at the Akeman Inn, Kingswood, nr. Aylesbury. This is a monthly meet and I always try to go along to show my support. The club was set up in 2020 to try and get all the local VW owners to travel together to shows and events. The monthly meets allow owners to talk about their VW's and pick other members brains regarding any problems they may have, and of course just to see your mates!. To find out more about the AVWOC check out their Facebook page: Aylesbury VW Owners | Facebook

AVWOC member Perry Watkins brought
along 'Oklahoma Willy' his street legal jet
 powered split screen bus.

Powered by a Rolls-Royce Viper 535
turbo jet engine.

For everyday use the splitty is powered
by a 1955cc long block that was built in
California by Chico Performance Racing.

This beast produces 3,450lbs of thrust,
and uses 8.3 gallons of fuel per minute.

To find more about Oklahoma Willy, how
the truck was built, the engine and watch
some You Tube videos of the bus going
the 1/4 mile at Santa Pod Raceway, check

So that was a brief review of the AVWOC monthly meet. There were many more VW's there, but they were water-cooled and as much as I like them ( I have one myself!) I try to keep the blog reviews air-cooled. Overall a good meet at a lovely dog friendly venue with nice people. Well worth a Sunday morning drive out.
